670 MILLION PEOPLE FACING HUNGER IN 2030, SAYS UN

The 2022 edition of the state of food security and nutrition in the world’s (SOFI) report of the United Nations (UN) has predicted that nearly 670 million people, which represent 8.0 per cent of the world population, would be facing hunger in 2030.

UK Prime Minister Agrees to Resign

U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has agreed to resign, ending an unprecedented political crisis over his future that has paralyzed Britain’s government.

An official in Johnson’s Downing Street office confirmed the prime minister will announce his resignation later this Thursday.

Johnson had initially rebuffed calls by his Cabinet to step down in the wake of ethics scandals.

However, he eventually gave in after more than 40 ministers quit his government and told him to resign.

Ukraine round-up: Evacuation under fire and new oil tensions

Residents have been told to leave Ukraine’s eastern city of Slovyansk, a day after two people were killed in a Russian attack on a market.

With Russian forces now controlling the nearby Luhansk region, UK defence intellligence says Slovyansk is likely to be the next focus of the fight for Donbas, the industrial area comprising Luhansk and Donetsk.

Russian forces also continued shelling Mykolaiv, a strategic city in the south where Ukraine is blocking an advance on the port city of Odesa.
