The police in Zamfara state say that the newly formed terror group Lakurawa is responsible for an explosion that occurred along the Dansadau-Gusau Road in the Maru Local Government Area of the State on Wednesday.
The state’s police commissioner, Muhammed Dalijan said this in a television interview this Thursday, saying the Lakurawa group has been trying to find new hideouts after they were dislodged by the Army in Sokoto and Kebbi.
He said they planted a bomb under a bridge while on their way to Birnin-Gwari forest, which exploded, killing a driver and injuring three other people.
The police commissioner said members of the dreaded insurgent group were seen around the scene of the incident shortly before the explosion.
Dalijan says planting of explosive devices is a new development in the North-West state and although Zamfara has had a long battle with deadly bandits, he says they don’t have the capacity to plant explosive devices.
