The Zamfara State Police Command says security operatives have been deployed to areas in the state reportedly being blocked by armed bandits.
The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, said this this Thursday in response to reports that bandits have blocked the Magazu – Kucheri Road and Gusau – Funtua highway, and have kidnapped an unspecified number of travellers.
Abubakar says operatives of the Nigerian Police Mobile Squad have been deployed to the areas to clear the road and restore order.
A commuter, Yusuf Tsafe, who was still stranded around the area told newsmen that the bandits stormed the highway in the early hours of this Thursday and mounted a roadblock around the Tazame axis of the road.
According to him, the bandits came in their large numbers with about 50 motorcycles, each carrying 3 persons, and abducted an unspecified number of travellers
