We Have Returned Over One Million Street Children To School In Last 30 Months, Says Alausa

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has said that the Federal Government has succeeded in returning more than one million children from the streets to classrooms over the past 30 months as part of efforts to tackle the country’s out-of-school children crisis.

Alausa said this to newsmen on Tuesday, while responding to questions about recent UNESCO and UNICEF figures estimating that 18.3 million Nigerian children are currently out of school.

He says that the widely cited figure has remained unchanged for nearly a decade and does not reflect the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts.

It will be recalled that President Bola Tinubu in 2024, described the situation as “unacceptable” and pledged to make education a central pillar of his administration’s agenda.
