The Judo competition at the ongoing National Sports Festival has been suspended after a violent incident disrupted proceedings.
The unrest began when officials from Team Lagos protested the outcome of a bout, alleging that their athlete had been unfairly denied a crucial point.
The protest quickly escalated into a physical altercation after their demand for a post-match review was declined.
During the confrontation, Sodiq Akinlabi, an athlete from Lagos, was reportedly punched by a Jigawa official, resulting in the loss of a tooth.
Event organizers have suspended all remaining judo matches till this Tuesday to allow for investigations and restore order.
