Vietnam’s top leader To Lam has been reappointed as head of the country’s ruling Communist Party for the next five years.

The party’s congress announced Lam’s re-election this Friday, saying the vote to re-elect him as their general secretary was unanimously agreed by the 180 party officials of the central committee.

The decision came at the conclusion of the National Party Congress which is formed every five years with nearly 1,600 delegates present at this year’s congress to choose the next leader of the party and decide Vietnam’s political and economic direction.

The congress also confirmed the appointment of 19 members to the country’s top leadership body, the politburo, although no announcement has been made about whether To Lam will also become president.
