The United States, US, says it has mobilized disaster relief teams to head to the Caribbean following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in multiple island nations.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this on X on Wednesday saying the country is in close contact with the governments of Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic and The Bahamas as they confront the devastating impacts of Hurricane Melissa which has killed at least 7 people.

He says they have rescue and response teams heading to affected areas along with critical lifesaving supplies.

Meanwhile, this pledge of assistance comes after President Donald Trump’s administration cancelled the vast majority of US international assistance by shutting down the US Agency for International Development, USAID.
