The Management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, has announced a ban on social activities on the campus beyond 6 pm.
The Acting Public Relations Officer of UNN, Inya Egwu said the ban became necessary following the death of a businessman identified as Chiebonam Nweze, who was allegedly stabbed.
Reports say Nweze was a guest during a burn fire night organized by the students’ association of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, UNN, but the fire event was hijacked by criminals from a neighbouring community, who instigated violence.
Egwu says following Nweze’s death, the university has ordered that all such activities must be held strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit.
The management assured the public that UNN remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all members of its community and would continue to take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence of such an incident.
