The British government says it is coming up with a new rule to toughen immigration rules and make it almost impossible for undocumented migrants to later receive citizenship.
The government said this Wednesday that the new rule means migrants who enter the UK illegally, including arrivals by sea on small boats, or hidden in the back of vehicles will face having a British citizenship application refused.
The announcement comes following this week’s debate by the UK parliament members on the government’s new Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill, designed to give law enforcement officials powers to break up gangs bringing irregular migrants into the country.
Labour party parliament member, Stella Creasy as well as other Labour members have however criticised the new rules saying that it was not right to refuse a person who was granted refugee status a route to British citizenship.
