President Donald Trump’s administration aims to cut about 80,000 jobs from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which is the federal department overseeing the health care and some other benefits of veterans.
Reports say the VA, in collaboration with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), says the move is to “identify and eliminate waste, reduce management and bureaucracy, reduce footprint, and increase workforce efficiency.
They also say a portion of the savings garnered will be reinvested in the veterans they serve and in the systems required to support their workforce and execute their mission
However, some Democratic lawmakers criticized the planned cuts, including Representative Mark Takano of California, who described it as an outright betrayal of veterans.
