Top United Sates (US) officials have suggested that Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, might have to step down if a peace deal is to be reached.
US National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, said this to newsmen on Sunday, saying they need a leader that can deal with them, eventually deal with the Russians, and end this war.
Waltz says if it becomes apparent that Zelensky’s either personal motivations or political motivations are divergent from ending the fighting in this country, then he thinks they have a real issue.
His remarks and those of other key Republicans follow US President, Donald Trump’s turn against Zelensky during a meeting on Friday. This resulted in Trump calling Zelensky “disrespectful” and Zelensky leaving the White House without the anticipated signing of a preliminary pact on sharing Ukrainian mineral rights.
