President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Oluyede as the Acting Chief of Army Staff.
This was announced on Wednesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who says Oluyede will assume the role pending the return of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who is currently abroad for medical treatment.
Prior to this appointment, Oluyede was the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, stationed in Jaji, Kaduna.
However, recall that last Monday, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, while reacting to rumors about an acting chief of army staff, had said there is no provision for such a position in the Armed Forces of Nigeria and that General Lagbaja was on official leave.
