The Israeli military and Palestinian authorities say dozens of Israeli settlers have attacked a Palestinian West Bank town leading to the killing of three Palestinians by Israeli forces.
The Palestinian health ministry says seven others were wounded in the violence.
The Israeli military explained that military and police forces were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of ensuing violence that included an exchange of stone-throwing.
The Israeli military alleged that several Palestinians opened fire and hurled rocks at the forces, who returned the fire. Five Israeli suspects were arrested and an Israeli army officer was lightly wounded.
