The World Health Organization says three people have died from a suspected hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship headed to Cape Verde from Argentina
Hantavirus refers to a strain of viruses carried by rodents, primarily transmitted to humans through inhalation of airborne particles from dried rodent droppings
A South African health official says a 70-year-old male passenger and his 69-year-old wife became ill on the cruise. The man died on arrival at St Helena Island, while his wife died in a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Reports say, the only other confirmed case of the virus is a 69-year-old British national, who is currently in intensive care in Johannesburg.
