Rivers Crisis: Anger As NASS Approves Emergency Rule With Voice Vote

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, has slammed the National Assembly for approving President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State

Obi says the action required the support of a two-third majority, which could not be determined through a voice vote.

However, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, says the legislators’ approval was done with unanimity without a single nay.

The two chambers of the National Assembly approved President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Thursday.

Alongside the approval, the Senate declared that all regulations in Rivers State must be subjected to the approval and oversight of the National Assembly Joint Ad-hoc Committee.
