A retired military officer and former NYSC Director-General, Bamidele Olawumi, has strongly criticised Senator Adams Oshiomhole for his recent allegations that retired military generals are involved in illegal mining activities in Nigeria.
Olawumi said this to newsmen this Tuesday, saying Oshiomhole’s remarks are offensive, unpatriotic and irresponsible.
He accused Oshiomhole of unfairly defaming retired generals who have served Nigeria with honour, saying the reckless generalisation has exposed retired generals to unwarranted public scorn and suspicion.
Olawumi says if Oshiomhole had credible evidence of any retired general involved in illegal mining, the responsible action would have been to report such individuals to the Department of State Services or other relevant authorities.
He says Oshiomhole should provide concrete evidence to back his claims or withdraw the allegations altogether, saying he should also apologize for tarnishing the honour and integrity of retired military officers.
