President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a high-level eight-member committee for the forthcoming national population and housing census and has given them three weeks to submit an interim report.
The presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, announced this, saying President Tinubu emphasized the importance of the census for national development, accurate planning, and effective decision-making in healthcare, education, security, and economic planning.
The committee includes the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Information, Muhammed Idris, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Kwarra, alongside others.
The President charged the committee to utilize technology, source for funding through domestic and even international resources and to work with all relevant agencies. Recall that Nigeria’s last census was in 2006, which is almost two decades ago.
