Four persons have been confirmed dead and 15 others injured after armed men suspected to be cultists invaded a burial ceremony at Ezi Village, Ogidi, in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state and opened fire on the attendees.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said this Friday that Police Operatives from Ogidi Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, mobilized to the scene and evacuated the victims to hospitals for medical attention and restored normalcy.
Ikenga says the command has launched a discreet investigation to identify, trace, and arrest the perpetrators.
In addition, the state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has condemned the incident while assuring residents that the Command remains committed to rid the State of cult-related violence and other criminal activities and has urged members of the public to remain calm, security-conscious, and to continue to provide useful information by reporting suspicious movements or persons to the nearest Police station.
