Police apprehend alleged killer of former Ebonyi deputy governor’s father

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ebonyi State have arrested a suspect believed to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping and killing of a traditional ruler, Francis Igwe, father of a former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi state, Kelechi Igwe.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this Tuesday that the suspect, identified as Nwazunku Stephen, was arrested on March 8 at his hideout in Ikwo Local Government Area, following sustained surveillance and intelligence-led operations by operatives of the command.

Ukandu disclosed that on March 7, one of the suspects led operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to his hideout, where arms and other items were recovered.

Ukandu also said the suspect has provided useful information and is assisting the command with ongoing investigations.

He also assured the public that the investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals connected to the incident.
