The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the Edo state Governor Monday Okpebholo of using state funds to bribe the lawmakers who defected from the party on Wednesday.
The PDP Caretaker Committee’s Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, made the accusation on Wednesday, in reaction to the defection of four PDP lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Nehikhare alleged that they were notified last week of Governor Okpebholo’s plan to buy over PDP lawmakers with N200m each, which he says has been confirmed by the defection of the lawmakers.
However, the APC acting chairman Jarret Tenebe, has dismissed PDP’s bribery allegations, insisting that the lawmakers defected out of conviction, not financial incentives.
