Thousands of people have protested in Paris over a Mauritanian immigrant worker, 35-year-old, El Hacen Diarra, who died in Police custody.

Reports say the protesters gathered in front of his residence where he was violently arrested by police on January 14.

Paris police say they have launched an internal investigation into what happened, while his family’s lawyer Yassine Bouzrou say they have filed a legal complaint accusing security forces of intentional violence that led to his death.

Meanwhile, France’s Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has rejected calls for the officers concerned to be suspended saying until there is clear evidence they did something wrong.
