The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has condemned the attack on the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma, when he visited the palace to ascertain the level of destruction allegedly caused by protesters.

According to reports, the people of Ekpoma embarked on a protest action over insecurity and incessant kidnapping on Saturday, but the protest was hijacked by hoodlums, who unleashed violence on the community.

They chased away traders at the livestock market, attacked and destroyed parts of the Onojie’s palace, which resulted in the blockage of a major highway and the grounding of commercial activities.

Okpebholo condemned the action, saying there was no justification for invading a traditional institution under the guise of expressing grievances over insecurity, assuring the traditional ruler and the people of Ekpoma that peace, law and order would be fully restored in the community and across Edo Central.
