Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has called on cocoa farmers in the country to forge strong farmer institutions to attain food security in Nigeria.
The Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria said this to newsmen this Thursday saying Obasanjo made the call after a summit of All Commodities Value Chain Associations Representatives in Nigeria organized to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural farmer’s institution and to build a resilient agricultural supply chain of food.
Obasanjo challenged farmers’ leaders present at the occasion to form a strong and virile association along the commodity lines that could be likened to the Soyabeans Farmers Association of America that often contributed to the sponsorship or emergence of any American President at every election year.
Obasanjo says a strong farmers’ institution will make food security achievable through farmers’ empowerment.
