The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, has announced plans to increase its passenger volume on the Port Harcourt-Aba corridor during the yuletide.
The South-East Zonal Public Relation Officer, Onyedikachi Onovo, said this to newsmen in Umuahia this Thursday, saying the move is aimed at reducing the current overcrowding of vehicles by passengers.
Onovo says the corporation is already refurbishing additional vehicles to achieve the plan, assuring that the vehicles will be attached to trains as soon as rehabilitations are completed.
He says currently the Port Harcourt-Aba train takes between 500 and 900 passengers per trip, but with the additional vehicles, they will be able to convey about 1,000 passengers per trip even as they target about 2,000 passengers daily.
