The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has condemned a bill before the United States congress seeking to impose sanctions on its national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for alleged “severe religious freedom violations”.
Recall that on Tuesday, five US lawmakers introduced a bill which proposes sanctions, including visa bans and asset freezes, on “individuals or entities responsible for severe religious freedom violations” in Nigeria.
The entities and individuals listed for sanctions are Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano; Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN); Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore; and those described as “Fulani-ethnic nomad militias in Nigeria”.
However, On Wednesday, the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, denied the allegations. He said they were made without thorough investigations and aimed at targeting an innocent man who has no links to religious extremism.
