NCoS Denies Reports of Poor Feeding in Correctional Centres

The Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, has denied reports of inmates being poorly fed and dying of hunger in correctional centers across the country.

The Service Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Umar, made the denial this Tuesday in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, saying the reports are “misleading, sensational, and grossly inaccurate.

Umar clarified that the Federal Government allocates funds every year for the feeding of inmates, and that the funds are judiciously utilised under strict supervision and guidelines.

He explained that each inmate is entitled to three meals daily — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — as stipulated in the operational guidelines of the Service.

Umar further debunked claims that the inmates were interviewed, saying its impossible due to the tight security measures that do not allow for a recording device to be carried into the correctional centres.
