The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has begun an investigation into claims of civilian casualties during airstrikes around Jilli Market near Fuchimiram village in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Local authorities claim that the airstrikes which occurred on Saturday, 11th April, killed about 40 civilians with some other reports saying the casualty figure could be higher.
In response, the Director of Public Relations and Information at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, assured that investigations have begun and that the force will treat all reports of possible civilian harm with the utmost seriousness and empathy.
Although, the military, had, maintained that the location was a legitimate military target, describing Jilli as a known logistics hub and convergence point for fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP.
