Moroccan Court Sentences 18 Senegalese Fans Held In Morocco Over Hooliganism Charges
A Moroccan court has sentenced 18 Senegalese football fans to prison terms ranging from three to 12 months over hooliganism charges.

Reports say the group had been in pre-trial detention since January 18, the day of the AFCON final in which Morocco lost to Senegal, after some Senegalese supporters attempted to invade the pitch and threw objects onto the field.

The prosecution told the court that the defendants deliberately sought to disrupt the proper conduct of the match and that the Material damage to the stadium was estimated at more than four million Moroccan dirhams.

However the defendants denied any wrongdoing and their lawyer, Naima El Guellaf, told the court that the footage from the stadium did not contain irrefutable proof showing that any one of them struck or assaulted anyone.
