Makurdi–Enugu Road: FG Gives Contractor Seven-day Ultimatum To Address Safety Concerns

The Federal Government has given China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) and its affiliate, China Harbour Operation and Maintenance Company (CHOMC), a seven-day ultimatum to address safety and environmental concerns on the Makurdi–9th Mile–Enugu Road project.

The minister of Works, David Umahi, said this during a meeting with contractors at his office in Abuja, saying the meeting was convened to address public complaints and enforce contractor accountability on projects.

He has now mandated the contractor to control construction dust, rehabilitate failed sections of the road, fix damaged expansion joints, blocked drains, manholes, washouts, clear overgrown vegetation and reinstate road signs and stronger safety monitoring along the corridor and warned that failure to comply within seven days could lead in to project suspension and other contract sanctions.
