IPOB’s sit-at-home imposed heavy social, economic, political costs on southeast — Soludo

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, on Wednesday said the Southeast had suffered enormous social, economic and political losses from the Monday sit-at-home enforced across the region for more than five years.

Soludo said beyond the immediate disruption of business and schooling, the sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over the incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had damaged investor confidence and pushed some people to divert their businesses and investments outside the zone.

Speaking with journalists at the State House, Abuja after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the governor described the losses as “humongous,” adding that the region had, in effect, forfeited a significant portion of its productive week.

He explained that with 52 Mondays in a year, the sit-at-home translated into sustained loss of income, reduced productivity and missed opportunities for growth, with long-term implications for the future of the region.
