A state in India, Assam state, which shares a border with Bangladesh, has said it will issue gun licenses to “indigenous” residents.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma announced this saying his people face the threat of attacks from the Bangladesh side, and even in their own villages.

Reports say the population of Assam is majorly Hindu but the population of Bangladesh is majorly Muslim.

Sarma says a website has been created for the Assamese who perceive a threat to their lives to apply for arms licenses.

However, an opposition congress lawmaker, Gaurov Gogoi, criticized the move saying it will lead to gang violence and crimes based on personal vendetta.
