India Closes border with Pakistan after Kashmir Attack

The Foreign Ministry in India has announced that Pakistani nationals will not be allowed to travel to India under the visa exemption program of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, SAARC, and that the main border-crossing linking the two countries will be closed.

India’s Foreign Ministry announced this on Wednesday, also saying that any visa previously issued under the SAARC scheme has now been deemed cancelled and all Pakistani nationals in India with these visas have been given 48 hours to leave the country.

Furthermore, India says there will also be a suspension of a water-sharing treaty and the expulsion of diplomats.

These announcements are in response to the killing of 26 tourists in Kashmir, the northernmost state of the Union of India, which an armed group, The Resistance Front, linked to Pakistan, has claimed responsibility for.
