The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has warned officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) against the unlawful and prolonged detention of suspects.
The Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said this to newsmen on Sunday.
Adejobi says Egbetokun emphasised the need for strict adherence to constitutionally guaranteed rights, which uphold human dignity and personal liberty.
Egbetokun stressed that suspects must not be detained beyond legally stipulated periods and warned that any officer found culpable of such violations would face strict disciplinary measures.
