The Press Office of the Holy See has announced that the funeral of Pope Francis will take place on Saturday, 26th April 26, 2025, by 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Square.
The Dean of the College of Cardinals, Giovanni Battista Re says he will preside at the Mass, which will be co-celebrated by Patriarchs, Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, and priests from across the globe.
But prior to the funeral on Saturday, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, Cardinal Kevin Farrell who had announced the Popes’ death, will preside over the rite of translation on Wednesday, 23rd April, by 9:00 AM, with a moment of prayer.
Also ahead of the funeral, the coffin containing the Pope’s body will be carried from the chapel of the Casa Santa Marta to St. Peter’s Basilica, and then to the Basilica of St. Mary Major for entombment.
