Hamas Rejects Short-Term Truce, To Insist On Permanent Ceasefire Deal

A senior Hamas official Taher al-Nunu has said Hamas rejects any proposal for a temporary halt to more than a year of fighting in Gaza and insists on a lasting ceasefire.

Al-Nunu said this this Thursday reiterating that Hamas supports a permanent end to the war, not a temporary one

Reports say mediators seeking to broker a Gaza ceasefire are expected to propose a truce of “less than a month” to Hamas.

The proposal involves exchanging Israeli hostages for Palestinians in Israeli prisons and increasing aid to Gaza which the US believes could lead to a more permanent ceasefire deal

Although Al-Nunu says the group has not received any proposal so far, he insisted that the group only wants a permanent ceasefire, which would include withdrawal (of Israeli forces) from Gaza, the return of displaced people, sufficient humanitarian aid to Gaza and a serious prisoner exchange deal.
