The Federal Government has announced the imminent take-off of a landmark one-megawatt solar electrification project at the newly established Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho, in Oyo State.

The Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor on Current Issues, Bolaji Olaomo, said this Monday, that the project, facilitated by the Rural Electrification Agency, was part of a broader national initiative to provide sustainable energy to 16 selected universities across Nigeria.

Assessments for the solar electrification project have been carried out and approved, and is scheduled to commence within the next few months.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Jacob Babayemi, has confirmed the university’s full cooperation, while appointing a community elder, to serve as the primary liaison for the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment team.
