Farotimi Questions State of Democracy Under Tinubu

Nigerian lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi, has said it is unclear whether Nigeria is under a military dictatorship or democracy because of how increasingly dangerous it is to speak under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He said this in a television interview this Thursday in reaction to Tinubu’s Democracy Day speech where he assured that the country’s democracy is alive although not invincible.

Farotimi says Nigerians are not feeling the breeze of democracy as projected by Tinubu. He attributed this to the level of depression of free speech and the readiness to criminalize every civic disagreement.

Farotimi also criticized President Tinubu’s visit to Benue state yesterday saying it was more like a campaign rally than a condolence or compassionate visit.

He also condemned the Benue state government for the reception put up for the President, saying they should have been mourning the death of the over 200 persons killed in the latest attacks.
