The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a doctor, Emmanuel Ugwumba for alleged child trafficking and forgery, in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.

 

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrest saying officers from the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad took Ugwumba into custody on September 28, following credible intelligence that linked him to a child trafficking network.

 

Ndukwe says investigation revealed that the suspect owns and manages Chima Hospital and Maternity where he conspired with an acclaimed staff of the Enugu State Ministry of Gender and Social Development and some others to conduct ante-natal care and delivery of seven children who are now missing.

 

He was also found with different documents from the Ministry of Gender Affairs and unverified pest/vector certificates from the Enugu State Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources.

 

He has been arraigned in court and remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centre, pending further hearing.
