We have news that the arraignment of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, over his alleged unlawful interception of the phone communication of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, could not hold this Wednesday as scheduled, due to his absence.
Reports say the case could not proceed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, following the failure of the Department of State Services (DSS) to produce El-Rufai for trial.
Recall that the court gave the DSS the approval to dock El-rufai on a three-count charge of alleged threat to national security after he was transferred from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
However, when the case was called up this Wednesday, the court was told that the ICPC still retained the defendant in its custody. This prompted the trial Justice, Joyce Abdulmalik to adjourn the case till April 23.
