Eight people have reportedly lost their lives in a road crash opposite Unity Bank on Zaria Road in the capital of Plateau State, Jos.
Eyewitnesses say the accident occurred in the early hours of this Thursday, involving a trailer and a bus carrying students of the University of Jos.
They say eleven people were on board the bus. Seven were pronounced dead at the scene, and another victim later died in the hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to eight.
According to them, the bus was speeding and engaged in wrongful overtaking, which caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the crash.
The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Peter Longsan, confirmed this saying three others were receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Sector Commander of FRSC Plateau, Olajide Mogaji, urged motorists, especially drivers, to avoid night trips, excessive speed, dangerous driving, driving under the influence, and driving when fatigued or unwell, noting that these are major causes of fatalities in road crashes.
