The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has reportedly arrested a popular businesswoman and socialite, Aisha Achimugu, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Achimugu’s lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, confirmed her arrest to newsmen saying she voluntarily entered the country from London to honour the EFCC’s invitation, but was arrested around 5 a.m. this Tuesday.
Recall that Achimugu who is the Chairman of Bluewave Exploration and Production Limited, had been declared wanted in March by the EFCC over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
Also recall that on Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered her to appear before the EFCC this Tuesday, and also to appear before the court on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
However, her lawyer, Ojukwu criticised the EFCC’s action, describing it as a violation of a court order and also said that Achimugu has commenced a hunger strike to protest what he termed a breach of her fundamental rights.
