The Ebonyi State Government has ordered the destruction of all shrines and deities in the Amasiri community of Afikpo Local Government Area of that state.
Nwifuru gave the order for the demolition of the shrines and deities this Friday after an enlarged state security meeting following the roles played by the shrines in a land dispute between Amasiri and neighbouring Okporojo, in the Oso community of Edda Local Government Area which led to several deaths and the destruction of several properties.
He has also imposed sanctions on Amasiri, including the sacking of its political appointees, the dethronement of its traditional rulers, the imposition of a curfew, and the closure of schools, among others.
The state government has now constituted a 19–member committee to demarcate the disputed boundary between Okporojo and Amasiri communities.
