A magistrate court sitting in the capital of Ebonyi state, Abakaliki, has sentenced one Michael Iro to one year and six months in prison for impersonation, conspiracy, and intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public by operating an unlicensed survey office in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Blaze FM’s Correspondent in Ebonyi State, Emmanuel Nnaji reports that Iro, who was arrested by the Ebonyi state chapter of the task force of the council of surveyors of Nigeria, was accused of collecting money from unsuspecting clients and issuing them fake land documents at meager amounts.
Senior Magistrate Nnenna Ukpabi, declared the defendant guilty of the three count charge of impersonation, conspiracy, and Fraud and sentenced him to one year and six months in prison.
Reacting to the judgment, Ebonyi State Surveyor General Igbede John described the judgment as a major step towards stalling the activities of quacks in the State and called on other illegal operators in the State to desist from the act or risk legal actions.
