Thousands of primary and secondary school children and teachers across Cross River State were stranded earlier this Thursday following the sudden declaration of a two-day public holiday by the state Governor, Bassey Otu.
The Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Nsa Gill, announced the public holiday late last night and said it is to allow teachers, public officials, and other citizens to travel to their respective wards and local government areas to participate in the local government and ward elections.
However, due to the late release of the announcement, many school authorities were unaware of the development causing many school children to be seen crowding around their school gates in Calabar, the state capital, while many others were returning to their homes.
The state’s local government and ward elections are scheduled to be held in Cross River State on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
