The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has permitted the Federal Government to protect the identities of its witnesses that are supposed to testify against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the permission this Tuesday, allowing the federal government’s witnesses to testify behind camera and for their names to be shielded from the public.
Justice Omotosho delivered the ruling in an ex-parte application filed by the federal government’s lawyer, Adegboyega Solomon, who pleaded with the judge that the identities of the witnesses needed to be protected for security reasons.
He said the charges against Kanu bothers on terrorism, hence, the need to protect the witnesses.
Due to no objection from Kanu’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, Justice Omotosho granted the request.
