Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed his disappointment at the decision of the United States President, Donald Trump to increase US tariffs on Canadian goods to 35 percent.
Carney said this, this Friday after an executive order by Trump raised the levy from 25 percent to 35 percent.
Recall that Trump had warned of trade consequences for Canada after Carney announced plans to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September.
He also says Canada’s failure to cooperate in controlling the ongoing flood of illicit drugs as well as Canada’s retaliation against his previous measures necessitated the tariff increase.
Products covered by a 2020 United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, however, remain exempt from the tariff rate, however.
