Botswana President, Mokgweetsi Masisi has said he will step aside following his party’s defeat in the general elections held on October 30, 2024.
Maisis said this to newsmen this Friday and congratulated the opposition on their victory
Masisi who took office in 2018 says he will begin administrative work to facilitate the transition.
His party, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has been ruling for fifty-eight years after the country gained independence from Britain in 1966.
The election results are expected to be confirmed by the electoral commission later this Friday, but early counts showed that three opposition parties had together won at least 31 of 61 seats in the national legislature.
