Bayelsa Announces Bid To Host National Sports Festival In 2028

The Bayelsa State Government has announced its intention to bid for the hosting of the National Sports Festival in 2028, upon the completion of a new stadium located in Yenagoa Local Government Area.

Bayelsa state’s Commissioner for Sports Development, Daniel Igali, said this during a visit to the stadium construction site to review the progress of work being done by the contractor responsible for clearing the area.

Igali says that the new stadium will span 40 hectares of land and feature a seating capacity of 25,000, saying it is scheduled for completion within 24 months.

He says the planned multi-purpose stadium will include two training pitches, a swimming pool, a diving pool, basketball and volleyball courts, a tennis court, a table tennis hall, and eight additional halls for other sports.

Igali says that the purpose of the stadium’s construction is to ensure Bayelsa is fully prepared to host the 2028 National Sports Festival, he is satisfied with the progress made by the contractor in a relatively short time.
