The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar has said the Federal Government’s policy on age limit for tertiary education admission should be condemned in its totality.
Atiku said this on his official Facebook Handle this Wednesday, saying the recent policy of the Federal Ministry of Education pegging the age limit for entry to tertiary institutions at 18 is the least of issues facing our educational sector.
Atiku says it is extra constitutional for the federal government to legislate on education in such a manner, saying the Nigerian constitution puts education in the concurrent list, meaning the state governments enjoy more roles than the federal government in such matters.
He says the policy is an embarrassment to the body of intellectuals in the country because it portrays Nigeria as a country where specially gifted students are not appreciated.
