At least two people have been killed and dozens arrested in Cameroon following protests over the disputed October 12 2025 presidential election.

Recall that the opposition, led by Issa Tchiroma Bakary, claims he won with 54.8 percent of votes, alleging massive fraud, while the ruling party insists the process was fair. Incumbent President Paul Biya, aged 92, has ruled since 1982, making him one of the world’s longest-serving leaders. Official results are yet to be declared, with the constitutional council expected to announce them soon.

Rights groups warn that the deaths and arrests are a sign of growing repression and raised fears for Cameroon’s political stability.
